"Man can learn nothing unless he proceeds from the known to the unknown." -Claude Bernard
So many people are just so damn afraid to mess up that they never even try. Sitting in my Marine Bio class everyday I'm amazed at the number of kids around me who know the answer but choose not to open their mouths because they're just so afraid of looking like an idiot to their peers. I want so badly to shake them and tell them that they're ridiculous. That by keeping their mouths shut they aren't helping themselves. Just take a chance and take the leap of faith, you may learn something new on the fall.
Science wasn't built by staying within the walls of confinement. Great scientists and writers weren't built by staying in the barrier of the known. People who are great at what they do no matter what it as that they do are the ones who venture into the unknown and aim to make that abyss of unknown the light of the known.

"We all have the same roots and we are all branches of the same tree." -Aang (Avatar: The Last Airbender)
There are so many things in this short life of ours that separates ourselves from the society around us. Wether it be age, sex, skin color, sexuality, or just somebody's personality we distance ourselves from people who we don't see as similar to ourselves. It's in these times of separation and distance that it is most important to remember that we are all human and we come from the same tree of life that everybody else on the planet does. Although a lot of the times it's hard to remember, the people that we coexist with are realistically a lot more similar to us than we'd like to believe.

"Find Your Greatness" -Rebecca
This is the one thing that every child should be told growing up. Without knowing what makes you great you can't fully impact anybody the way you were born to. Instead of telling kids to find their place and find their passion, we should be telling them to simply find their greatness. Once they find what they're great at, their place and passion will slowly fall into place.
Reading this this morning reminded me how important it is to not only remember and recognize the greatness within yourself, but it reminded me of how important it is to be the kind of person that makes it easier for the people around you to recognize their own greatness. In today's world a lot of teens struggle so greatly with their own self worth and I find it to be so incredibly important to take time throughout the day to just remind yourself of something great about yourself. On the days when that seems hard just take the time to remind yourself of all of the great things in the world, just don't forget to include yourself on that list.

"If thou follow thy star, thou canst not fail of glorious haven. " -Dante Alighieri
Look into the stars and think of me, for I am your haven filled with glory and you are my star that leads me through this life. You are my star that fills me with hope and leads me to understanding, because of you I obtain my glorious haven that is life.
This morning when I read this my mind strayed to what my day would bring me. I let my mind wander to every moment that I would encounter that would bring me happiness and that I could make happiness out of. I learned throughout the day how easy it is to make your own happiness. Surround yourself with others who emit positive energy. Add the company of other's positive energy to a humans natural ability to follow the passion that ignites their soul and nobody will end a day having failed to have reach their own haven.

"Everything you can imagine is real." -Pablo Picasso
I never would have imagined I would have the courage to post everyday but I also never imagined I would have to bury two different friends before my 18th birthday. It's because of them that I feel encouraged enough to be posting this and there's nothing more real than the way their short lives have touched my own young life.
It's been easy to imagine how differently everything could be if I could have changed one small moment in the past. Just like it's easier to smile than frown, it's also easier to imagine the future than the past. I could talk about how I imagine us meeting again in the future and walking hand in hand into whatever awaits us after death but I believe life is for the living and there's plenty I imagine myself doing before death comes for me.
All of the minuscule things that I have been imagining for years are finally starting to become real. Grad night, Prom, Graduation, College. All of the small moments that we imagine our entire lives are finally becoming real. As these dreams begin to play out it's time to begin imagining a new reality. A reality where I can touch the lives of others like I have allowed my own life to be touched. I imagine a life for myself that consists of nothing but spreading my own wealth and happiness and touching lives in the same way that Erica and Bree have touched mine in the short time they were on Earth with me.
New Beginnings
December 31, 2014 we celebrated the upcoming year and said goodbye to the year that had passed us by like every other had before. As we brought in the New Year, a friend handed me a book she had treasured the year before. Each page contained a date and a quote. 365 days and 365 quotes. Although I read the quotes each morning and let them linger with me throughout the day, I never had the encouragement I needed to post what I thought about each one.
January 30, 2015 we lost a beautiful soul and gained an angel. As the community came together to honor her we each learned something about ourselves and about each other. Those I had never spoken to were hugging me, and those I had loose ends with apologized. I could go on for post after post about what occurred in the time following Bree's death, but each person has to tell their own story and that isn't what I'm here to do.
Thank you for letting your life encourage me to shoot for the Heavens.

February 8, 2015 we buried her yesterday and because her life was cut short the life each of us were given will be treasured endlessly. Her life as well as her death has encouraged me to tell MY story and spread MY word before family, friends, and strangers have to tell it for me.
Thank you for letting your life encourage me to shoot for the Heavens.
